Judy Smith
My Family
Herman and Ocie Ferguson brought their first born, Judy Ann, to Portsmouth First when she was only a few weeks old. She and her husband, Tom, the Vice Principal of Portsmouth Jr.High/High School, were married here in 1979. They have three children: Kyle, the Assistant Treasurer/Payroll Clerk for Portsmouth City Schools; Aaron, a Social Studies Major at Shawnee State University and Emily, a Music Education Major at MVNU.
Academics
Judy received her B.S. in Elementary Education with her minor in Piano from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University. She taught her first five years in Pike County and the past 14 with Portsmouth City Schools as First Grade teacher and K-6 Elementary Music teacher. She began studying piano as a First grader under the instruction of Sister Beata at St. Mary's Convent here in Portsmouth.
Hobbies
Judy loves to spend time with her family when she isn't busy with some sort of musical production. She enjoys serving the Lord through Music and has directed numerous Cantatas here at Portsmouth First along with playing the keyboard for our Praise Team. Judy also performs twice a year in the Scioto County Festival Choir.
A few words
I've always known that God's plan for me was serving Him through Music, whether it is singing in or directing a choir, teaching in the classroom or playing the piano. Portsmouth First has always been known for having wonderful worship services where our music brings you into the presence of God. If you are looking for a church that is filled with the Spirit and great music, Portsmouth First Nazarene is the place for you! Walter Savage Landor said, "Music is God's best gift to man, the only art of heaven given to earth, the only art of earth we take to heaven."
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with
wings as EAGLES they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
-Isaiah 40:31
